Embracing the Challenge

This case study is about recruiting within niche skill areas. Within the machinery sector hydraulic design engineers are notoriously difficult to recruit. So, when our client approached us in search of a Senior Hydraulic Engineer, we were eager to take on the challenge—knowing it would require collaboration, strategic networking, and determination. We were not wrong!

Overcoming Recruitment Challenges

Finding the right candidate is rarely straightforward, and this role presented difficulties. The company’s location, relative to its competitors, combined with the enhanced experience required, made the search especially complex.

We launched our recruitment campaign and arranged multiple interviews, but no one quite fit the bill. After refining our approach and running creative search strategies, we identified an outstanding candidate from the EU who was eager to relocate to the UK.

The Perfect Match

Marcus Webb Associates facilitated the introduction, and from the outset, both the client and candidate connected immediately. To build on this, we arranged an onsite meeting in the UK. The client dedicated an entire day to showing the candidate around, introducing them to the team, and sharing insights into the company’s future plans, products, and technologies.

A Successful Outcome

Following this, the client made a job offer. With Marcus Webb Associates managing negotiations between both parties, the offer was accepted, and after a brief notice period, the engineer successfully relocated and joined the team.

This was a challenging project, but it perfectly highlights the tenacity, dedication, and problem-solving abilities of our consultants. While others may have given up, we remained committed to delivering the right result.

Following this success, our client has continued to engage Marcus Webb Associates to support recruitment for other complex roles across their European engineering sites.
