Chief Engineer – Power Electronics Michigan, USA
$150,000 – $180,000 (flexible) + bonus + benefits Hybrid working
This role involves working within a successful and growing engineering company aligned to electrified propulsion / e-mobility sectors. As chief engineer you will have responsibility for technical leadership, directing and developing technical teams and projects and also assisting with commercial / business development activities.
OPPORTUNITY – This role will involve establishing a power electronics capability and in turn building a team. A great opportunity for a principal engineer looking to step up or a chief engineer with proven experience.
Key elements of this role include:
• Very strong technical competence within power electronics engineering (detail design)
• Excellent communication and technical leadership skills
• Demonstrable customer facing experience and commercial acumen
• Credible product delivery experience within transport / vehicle applications (electrified powertrain and propulsion systems)
As chief engineer you will be the technical specialist within the team and have significant and credible experience of delivering power electronic products into transport / vehicle applications (e.g. passenger cars, 2-3 wheelers, off highway, marine vessels, drones / UAVs, etc)
You will be a technical leader and guide within the business with the ability to advise internal teams and customers on several aspects of power electronics design and development from concept to release. (e.g. traction inverters, HV power conversion, including DC-DC converters, OBCs & rectifiers)
You will have delivered numerous products to series production within similar arenas and have a firm grasp of product certification processes.
As a credible technologist aligned to power electronics, you will be a figurehead within the company, interfacing with key customers and demonstrating the company’s capabilities in this field.
Furthermore, you will be commercially aware, will support bids, guide customers and capture requirements at customer meetings. You will also provide technical direction to design teams and represent the company at conferences.
It is likely you will have a strong academic background and many years of experience within power electronics design, developing traction inverters, DC-DC converters, OBCs, rectifiers and similar (likely between 60V to 6kV) for vehicle / transport applications.
You will also keep abreast of changes and advancements relating to power electronics technologies and the production of such products (e.g. SiC, GaN, MLC, etc).
You will need to be a strong communicator and confident working directly with senior stakeholders both internally and externally.
Relocation and visa support could be available for the right candidate.
NOTE: This role may suit a principal engineer looking to make a step into a chief role.
